Fragrant Bromeliads - Tillandsia crocata x caliginosa

  When I moved to FL from PNW, one thing that I immediately grabbed my attention is the variety of native Tillandsias that can found growing ubiquitously attached on to trees on both urban and wild natural environments here. This includes Tillandsia usenoides, a.k.a Spanish Moss which is one of the evocative symbols of deep south and part of the folklore here. I have a mature oak tree on my front yard that is draped in Spanish Moss. Every April, this unique and curious plant comes to bloom with diminutive flowers that are almost impossible to spot but they emit an elegant perfume that can be easily noticed if you are near these overhanging live drapery. Having grown Tillandsias before, this invoked my curiosity on fragrant bromeliads and I have quite a collection now.
